Shamanic Ceremonies
Mayan Cacao Ceremony
Cacao is roughly translated as “food of the Gods”, and it’s purest form can be found in the far reaches of Guatemala. However, did you know the “Mayan cacao ceremony” you see everywhere isn’t actually an ancient ceremony? While cacao has always been sacred to the Maya, historically, it was used by trained healers for internal conflict resolution, and therapeutic work between the family or an individual. Modern cacao circles or ceremonies led by Mayan shamans are contemporary practices inspired by this historic reverence.
The beautiful views, sounds, and ancient mysteries surrounding the tropical mountains where Earth Lodge is nestled near Antigua Guatemala provide the perfect setting to experience a modern Mayan Cacao Ceremony!
What To Expect: The Mayan Cacao Ceremony at Earth Lodge is led by a local female indigenous Mayan Shaman. Components of the ceremony include the ceremonial preparation and drinking of the cacao, intention setting, meditation, rhythmic chanting, traditional musical instruments, and storytelling.
