Mayan Temazcal Ceremony

What To Expect: This ceremony honors the traditional spiritual nature of the Temazcal, not simply a sauna! Used by the Mayans to eliminate toxins both physically and spiritually, leaving the practitioners cleansed, lighter, and clearer. For this ceremony it’s recommended to wear minimal clothing or no clothing, as traditional mud exfoliant will be applied to the body. The shaman will conduct the ceremony both outside and inside the Temazcal. Chakra activation, drumming, and chanting are used to help eliminate toxins from the body and spirit at all levels.

MEET Vicky

Vicky, one of the local female Ix’qik
with whom Earth Lodge collaborates, was born in Guatemala in 1979. Vicky has been a yoga teacher for over 10 years, teaching Ashtanga, Hatha and Vinyasa. She has also been a practicing Maya Priestess for over 10 years, properly called Ix’qik (Time Counter). She studies the well-kept millenary knowledge of the Maya Cosmovisión to help people understand the energies attached to every person since the moment of conception and which accompany the individual in sacred cycles called the “Cholquij Calendar”. Vicky combines her practice with the ancestral medicine inherited from her grandmothers.

Vicky will often ask for the birth dates of ceremony participants ahead of time so that she can tailor the ceremony based on the participants Nawales and the Elements, which allows her to know which direction to guide the ceremony. Every ceremony with Vicky is a unique and deeply authentic Mayan spiritual experience based on the practices passed down to her from her ancestors and the unique energetic imprints of every participant.

MEET Tz’ules

Tz’ules, one of the local female Mayan Shamanas with whom Earth Lodge collaborates, was raised in a family with a long spiritual lineage, where they allowed her to choose who she was going to be. Her family guided her, did not put limits on her, and taught her to listen to her intuition. Tz’ules family taught her to listen, and expand her mind and beliefs beyond her fears. To be a spiritual guide is to have transcended darkness and balance humanity in connection with the whole, and to be in service with ones self and ones neighbor.

Tz’ules believes that spiritual guides must confront the struggles of conscience, to do justice, to support the community causes that need strength and spiritual energy, and to be warriors of the light. She believes that mother earth and mother nature and the water of life must be defended. These beliefs have inspired Tz’ules to support the local communities yearning for equality and respect for what they inherited and believes firmly that the indigenous peoples are responsible for ensuring that the legacy of our ancestors is respected and protected as we are all just visitors to this beautiful planet.
