The Village Weaving Workshop

Your journey begins with a 15-minute walk through the village of El Hato, accompanied by a translator, to the home of a local weaver.

Here, you’ll discover the skill, patience, and artistry that go into traditional Guatemalan textiles as your host introduces you to the backstrap loom, a weaving technique passed down through generations.

Then, it’s your turn to get creative! With guidance from your host, you’ll learn how to weave your own customised souvenir, getting a firsthand appreciation for the time and care that goes into every handmade piece.

And don’t worry if you don’t finish your creation during the workshop. Your host will complete it for you and have it delivered to Earth Lodge the following morning.

More than a weaving workshop, this intimate cultural experience offers a glimpse into everyday life in rural Guatemala while directly supporting the women of El Hato and their traditional craft.
